Black Paint was already on my radar when it was first launched in Singapore with its natural and organic black cleansing soap that is made with plant essential oils. I haven’t got the opportunity to review their products till now and I would say that it is a one of an interesting product stemming from the Japanese usual creativity in their product innovation.
The Black Paint was founded on the belief that pure and organic ingredients can help return the skin to its original healthy state while artificial chemicals, though, produce desired short term effects can cause harm to our skin in the long run. The brainchild of Black Paint is Miyuki Maeda who discovered the importance of the skin bacteria, staphylococcus epidermis, that forms the sebum layer on the skin which keeps skin hydrated, pH balanced and protected from environmental pollutants. But skincare products these days tend to work against these beneficial bacteria with its antifungal and antibacterial properties. Interestingly, the bacteria on our skin digest skin oil, dead cells and minerals from our perspiration, turning them into a natural moisturizing cream that acts as a physical barrier between the skin and the environment. Without these skin bacteria to keep our skin hydrated and pH balanced, skin problems like acne might start to arise. So instead of fighting against bacteria, Black Paint formula helps to nourish and protect the beneficial skin bacterial that maintains beautiful skin naturally.
I was given a Black Paint kit which comprises of the Black Paint soap, best water, oil water and lavender face cream but their star product would have to be their Black Paint soap that has won the Grand GoldMedal of Monde Selection Award.
Black Paint Soap is made from 23 types of plant-derived essential oils and other organic ingredients that have been approved by organic certification bodies in Germany and France. It contains no synthetic preservatives, alcohol, fragrances, colorings, silicones, paraffins or anti-oxidants. Some of these artificial chemicals are cancer-causing and may damage the ecosystems.
The Black Paint soap works by cleansing the pores and removing any dirt or debris that plugs the pores. It also removes make up.
The oil water rose has two separate layers because it does not contain any emulsifier, an artificial chemical, which help to keep the oil and water layer mixed together. Instead of depending on the use of the emulsifier, simply shake the bottle to mix the two immiscible layers together to create one natural skincare formula for your skin.
The best water is a toner which could also be used as a mask essence with the thin cotton pads.

STEP 1: Immerse the soap in water for about 30 to 45 seconds for it to soften slightly so that the product comes off easily. Then, using the soap, rub it gently across your face, just like how you would paint your face with paint. Paint it all black, take a step back and smile 🙂
Remember to close your eyes tightly while using this soap as it is highly alkaline in nature and may irritate the eyes.
STEP 5: The water cream is a moisturizer for your skin that promotes moisture retention and builds resistance to environmental pollutants. The nice soothing lavender scent has therapeutic calming effect which often helps me to get into a deep sleep. Although it is labelled as cream, it looks more like a lotion or water-based gel to me. It’s light weight and it isn’t too rich for the skin.
Verdict: It’s one of the most authentic natural products I’ve ever used thus far which contains almost no artificial chemicals. Thus, it is great for organic skincare users, people with sensitive skin, vegetarians and vegans. Such natural products requires alot of patience from consumers as the effects are often not immediate. But the benefits are probably long term and it also doesn’t cause much harm to the environment with their use of natural ingredients.
Using the black soap can get pretty messy and you gotta make sure that all the product is washed off completely or it will get onto your clothes or towel. It’s best to cleanse with your face with this soap during shower so that it can be rinsed off easily during shower.
The other products like best toner, oil water rose and water cream are pretty amazing as I find it really compatible with my oily-dry combination skin type. So I highly recommend Black Paint if you wouldn’t mind going through the hassle of using the face soap with the sponge. I guess all your efforts will be paid off by choosing organic and natural products that is safe and suitable for any skin types.
