The word ‘detox’ has been commonly associated with the term ‘weight loss’ and ‘slimming’ because during a detox, you have to abstain yourself from eating normally and this often results in weight loss. However, the meaning of the word ‘detox’ simply means removing toxins from your body – you could deem it as a cleansing process where your body returns to homeostasis.
And detox can take place through many forms – water fast, juice fast, raw vegan diet or lemonade diet. Some of these detox diets are supplemented with vitamins or mineral tablets to provide sufficient and balanced nutrients to the body. It can range from 1 to 7 days. Personally, I’ve done a few detoxes and enjoyed the after effects and benefits.
This is my second time trying Expressions’ 3-Day Detox kit which comes with a bottle of pure maple syrup and 3 different types of health supplements. Read about my first detox experience with Expressions here! It can be quite challenging to stay away from solid food for 3 days so it is important to prep the body before a detox if you want to witness a successful detoxification.
Hunger pangs may set in but it isn’t as bad because you can still sip some maple lemonade if you are feeling hungry. There may be temptations but if you are reminded of how much you have already given up to go through this diet, you would be less tempted to cheat.

I had received a couple of questions on how I prepare my maple lemonade. I like to drink it concentrated and drink cups of plain water throughout the day. From the previous detox, I learnt that I have to take in more maple syrup to prevent the hunger pangs from setting in. It wasn’t that bad on the first day but it gets progressively more challenging on the second and third day.
I would add about 3 tablespoons of maple syrup and one-third of lemon juice into my glass of water and drink it in the morning together with the supplements.
I am not sure why but I actually lost more weight previously as compared to this recent detox I had. Probably I didn’t drink enough water or maybe I wasn’t eating clean before the detox. But I did experienced the detox symptoms on the first day when I had to make several visits to the toilet to clear out my bowels. I felt so much lighter and better after!
In the previous detox which took place about one month ago, I lost about 2.5kg and this round, I lost only 0.5 kg. Not so obvious in the figures but my body felt much cleaner and my mind becomes sharper after the detox. I might consider going for another detox but perhaps maybe after a few months later. It would be great to do it at least once a year. I promise you – it will be a good break for your digestive system.
