I’ve attended the masterclass on Home and Lifestyle which was conducted by lifestyle and image consultant, Eri Kobayashi and Mediacorp artiste, Chen Han Wei. It was hosted by the bubbly host, Chew Soo Wei who often hosts ELLE events. Her hosting skills are superb; she just knew the right things to say to make the crowd excited and entertained.
During the first segment of the workshop, Eri shared with us about how about personality can impact the way we store and organized our things at home. It all boils down to whether you are a right or left-brainer. I knew about the distinct personalities between the two but it didn’t occur to me that it would affect our way of living especially when it comes to home organization.
And to test if you process information using predominantly your left or right brain, you can do a personality test or simple just cross your arms and clasp your two hands together. When you cross your arms, look out for which arm is tucked below. Is it your right or your left arm? If it is your right arm that is below, that means you are more of a right brainer like myself. And when you clasp your two hands together, look out for which thumb is tucked right below. Is it your left or right thumb?
I had both my right thumb and right arm below when I did the tests. And that means I am more of an optimistic with a keen sense. And it is somewhat true as I pretty much do things based on emotions and when looking for items, I tend to look for them according to their colors or shapes. In other words, when it comes to home organization, I could also organize my things according to colors, shapes and sizes and to also place things where it is easy for me to store so I can conveniently put them back in its original place.
During the class, she also showed us some tips for storing and folding our bedsheets. You can actually tuck bedsheets into pillow cases so that it is easier for you to draw out the set of bedsheet cover.
One of the most efficient ways of folding bedsheets is to fold it from corner to corner – by overlapping one corner over to the other and when you finish all four corners, you get this rectangular shape of bedsheet where you can fold further into a smaller shape.
Chen Han Wei took the second segment of the class where he shares some of his lifestyle tips which include a lot of DIY and creative ideas on how to transform your old furniture into modern-looking ones. He also gave us some tips and advice on how to clean and maintain our home bedding. He mentioned that it is sufficient to get a bedsheet of at least 500 thread count for comfort and the importance of changing ours beddings like pillows once every 2 or 3 years. After a prolonged period of time, the bed and pillows may harbor germs and bacteria which is hard to get rid of it it starts to breed within the pillow or bed.
