If you enjoy listening to ABBA’s timeless songs, you wouldn’t want to miss this musical, “MAMMA MIA!” which is a story about a mother, daughter, and three possible dads. The story takes place on a Greek island idyll. Produced by Judy Craymer, “MAMMA MIA!” is one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. Their very first show was in 2001 at the Winter Garden Theatre. It was based off the movie titled MAMMA MIA!.
Thoughts on the musical
Those who went for the show were clearly big fans of ABBA because some of the audience were singing and jiving to the music as the performers sang ABBA’s ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’. The performers even decked out in the retro Super Trouper costumes and sang some of the classic ABBA hits. At the end of the performance, people were standing up, clapping and dancing along to the beat. It was quite a sight!
The storyline was pretty straightforward, nothing too complicated. I kind of wish that the story plot has a little more depth to it. As a musical goer, I could not help but to compare it to the other musicals that I have watched before. For MAMMA MIA!, I find that it was more like a musical to showcase and reminisce ABBA’s classic hits, than a theatrical performance with a distinctive plot.
But nonetheless, it is a good opportunity to gather your folks who enjoy ABBA’s tunes to watch a musical together at Marina Bay Sands.
