I’m currently myopic and I am relying on contact lenses and glasses to help me explore this world with a clearer vision. You could say that it’s pretty cool to be short-sighted because you get the opportunity to put on coloured circle lenses that enlarges the size of your pupils and wear retro-looking or stylish glasses that makes you appear fashion-forward. And by the time you hit 40, you might not have the chance to play with all these ‘eye accessories’ to make yourself look good. Yay! In fact, when you’re in your forties or fifties, you might encounter the problem where you can only see nearby objects and small texts clearly when held further away from your eyes. This condition is known as Presbyopia (a.ka Lao Hua in mandarin). Presbyopia is a condition which develops with age, particularly affecting those aged 40 and above.

Many of us now spend a large part of our days in front of computer/TV/mobile screens reading text of various sizes. At the end of the day,we may notice that the text becomes even more difficult to read.

We may even develop headaches from squinting at the text. The onset of this condition can play havoc, to those who have perfect vision and to those who suffer from another eye conditions such as short-sightedness. That explains the degree of my glasses shot up ever since I was hooked to using the laptop.
