Chocolate facials aren’t new on the online beauty scene. Besides, you would have probably heard of it. But back here in Singapore, there is currently only one beauty salon that offers Chocolate facials using real CHOCOLATE. You even get to lick some chocolate off your face during the facial. How cool is that?
Surprise, Surprise
I may not look like a beauty or skincare guru on the outside but I’ve been to enough beauty salons to tell you which beauty treatments are worth going for or not. And J Studios’ Bernard Cassiere Chocolate Anti-stress Facial didn’t disappoint me at all. In fact, the results of the treatment went way beyond my expectations. I thought it would just be a fun and relaxing experience to have chocolate smeared across your face. Never have I imagined that this facial treatment would actually bring about an instant glow and softness to the skin. I have to say that the effects of the treatment are pretty amazing.
J Studios
Bernard Cassiere Chocolate Anti-stress Facial is exclusively available at J studios. Both J Studio outlets (in Jurong East and Bugis) offer this 75-minute pampering facial treatment.
I went for their chocolate facial treatment at their Bugis outlet, along Haji lane. Other than facial treatments, they also provide other beauty services like hair treatments, manicures and makeup.
Their swanky-looking boutique has designated areas for hair treatments, nails and makeup – all located on the first storey of the shophouse. On the second floor, you can find their four treatment rooms which are very spacious, to begin with.
The Service
I was assigned to one of their main beauty therapist who is exceptionally attentive and welcoming. Before heading up to the treatment room, I was given a warm glass of hot tea to drink.
The Lavender Room
It was interesting that they have come up with a theme for each of their treatment rooms. I was ushered to their Lavender room which was imbued with a calming lavender scent. The accented purple furnishings and purplish mood lights evoked a sense of peace and serenity. At that moment in time, I knew I was in for a treat. I don’t think I’ve ever felt this excited about facials before.
Bernard Cassiere Chocolate Anti-Stress Facial Treatment
It’s my first time doing facials with this Parisian brand of beauty products. Apparently, Bernard Cassiere had partnered with an Italian chocolatier, Mr Walter Bovetti to develop this line of Chocolate facial treatment products. They developed an edible chocolate mask which contains 64% pure cocoa. That has to be the highlight of the treatment.
Who is it for?
This facial treatment is great for those with dull-looking stressed skin. It is also suitable for those with dehydrated and environmentally-damaged skin (caused by UV rays and pollution).
This anti-radical and anti-ageing treatment also helps to nourish the skin, leaving it feeling softer, brighter and smoother.
That Chocolatey Experience
My whole ‘chocolatey’ experience begins with this first step of the treatment – a gentle massage. The therapist used lavender essential oil to bring me into relaxation.
Cleansing
A gentle facial cleanser is used to remove any make-up, oil and dirt.
Exfoliating
This is followed by a deep cleansing exfoliation step with Cocoa Beans Peeling scrub (Gommage Aux Feves De Cacao). The natural exfoliants help to get rid of the dead skin.
Lip Therapy
Next, the therapist applied a thin layer of lip balm across my lips to nourish and hydrate the lips.
Facial Massage
This facial does not include extraction as the squeezing of the pores and use of needles will only further aggravate the stressed skin. Instead, they proceed directly with a facial massage using cocoa butter (Beurre de Cacao) oil. The nourishing oil, combined with the firm massage techniques, will help to tone the skin.
Chocolate Mask
This is the favourite part of the facial treatment! The therapist applied a generous amount of Chocolate Mask (Fondue Au Chocolat) all over my face and even the lips. When asked why the mask was applied onto the lips, the therapists replied with me with a smile,’ it is for you, customers to have a taste of the chocolate.’ Trust me, the chocolate mask is exceptionally divine. It has a bittersweet dark chocolate taste.
Over the Moon
I believe that my stress levels took a plunge the moment I lick the chocolate off my lips. All thanks to the endorphins that were triggered to release from
It was also a pleasurable sensation to have the smooth creamy chocolate resting on my skin while I could inhale the delicious and buttery scent of chocolate.
After-treatment
Once the chocolate mask is removed, I could truly feel the effects of the chocolate mask. My skin feels super hydrated, nourished and plumped up. The change in my skin texture took me by surprise.
