When I first got my hands on Canon EOS 850D, I was strangely reminded of its Canon 650D: a camera model which I used to own. It’s one of those cameras which can produce quality shots. Canon 650D is now long gone and it’s no longer available but its prowess still lives in the newer DSLR camera models like EOS 850D.
Of course, the EOS 850D is equipped with so much more capabilities and powerful than Canon previous DSLR models. It’s that camera for the novice or hobbyist who is serious about photography but did not want to spend too much on the camera body. For a start, the Canon EOS 850D is a pretty decent DSLR which allows you to achieve decent shots with any compatible EF lenses.
A Reasonably-priced DSLR
The camera has several sophisticated features found in higher-end models to deliver the quality you need. The body is priced affordably at SGD1,189.
Main features:
- 24.1-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor + 4K video recording
- Wi-Fi connectivity + user-friendly ergonomics and interface
- All cross-type 45-point AF (viewfinder) + Dual Pixel CMOS AF (Live View)
With Dual Pixel CMOS AF, the autofocusing function is now faster. Thus you will be able to achieve clearer shots in a shorter amount of time. This function will enables to me to capture all the shots especially when you are taking action shots. You may also use its continuous high-speed shooting mode where you can take up to 7 frames per second. Those photo-worthy moments are too precious to be missed!
Other Canon accessories you should check out:
And if you’re an aspiring video creator, you should get the Canon TRIPOD GRIP HG-100TBR and Canon External Microphone DM-E10 along with the camera. I just can’t live without the external mic and tripod. Both gadgets are perfect for any video creators who constantly have to film.
For Photography Hobbyists
This camera is released on early 2020 and it is equipped with the new DIGIC 8 image processor as well as a number of other improved specifications such as improved AF performance and noise reduction capabilities.
The dials and controls are quite similar to the more advanced Canon cameras.
The Quick Control Dial allows you to change camera settings such as exposure compensation faster and more easily. And the AF-ON button right above the control dial allows you to control AF separately from the shutter release.
My Verdict
Overall, it’s a really decent DSLR to take great shots with. In addition, the camera body weighs only about 515 grams. With the lens, it can get quite heavy but not as bulky or heavy as the more advanced models. It’s easy to handle and it is definitely my choice of DSLR if I were to invest in one.

Check out this shot which I’ve taken with Canon 850D. I love that the colours in the photograph always look natural with Canon cameras. What you see with your eyes is exactly what you get.
